"Dr. Duck" Mayeux raises $450,000 for Ducks Unlimited; gains national spotlight
The President’s Top 100 are among Ducks Unlimited’s elite chapters throughout the nation. Every year, the list is reserved for the 100 chapters which raise the most grassroots dollars for DU's habitat conservation work. The Avoyelles Parish DU Chapter made the list as one of the organization’s highest fundraising chapters with more than $450,000 raised in one night, according to Avoyelles Chairman Dr. L.J. Mayeux.

Marksville's René Schwartzenburg named ASC East Pitcher of the Week
Rene Schwartzenburg has been named American Southwest Conference East Pitcher of the Week.
Schwartzenburg, who plays with the Louisiana College team in Pinveville, is a right-handed junior. She is from Marksville, and played on the Marksville Lady Tigers softball team.
She went 4-0 for the week, earning three wins with complete games and picking up another in relief.
She had a total of 32 strikeouts over 23 innings of work and only allowed two earned runs as she improved to 7-0 on the season.

Carrie Elizabeth Michael of Homer, LA and Christian Evans Bubenzer of Bunkie have announced their marriage which will be held May 1, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Shreveport.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ellis Michael of Homer, LA. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Carolyn Wasson Thurmon and the late Charles Thurmon, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Michael both of Homer, LA.
