PEARL RIVER W.M.A. CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has closed the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area (WMA) due to flood water levels that have exceeded the 16.5 feet benchmark at the Pearl River, La. gauge.
This closure of the WMA in southeastern St. Tammany Parish will primarily affect small game, snipe and hog hunting activities. The WMA will remain closed for hunting until water levels drop below 16.5 feet and all roads and bridges are determined safe for vehicle passage.
The gate at Old U.S. Hwy. 11 will remain closed after the water recedes until all the roads and bridges are determined to be safe for vehicle passage.
To monitor water levels contact the National Weather Service at http: www.srh.noaa.gov/lmrfc/ or contact the LDWF's East Gulf Coastal Plain Ecoregion office at ph. 985-543-4777 or jstafford@wlf.la.gov.
For more information, contact Jimmy Stafford at 985-543-4777 or jstafford@wlf.la.gov. 2010-053
