Marksville's René Schwartzenburg named ASC East Pitcher of the Week

Rene Schwartzenburg has been named American Southwest Conference East Pitcher of the Week.

Schwartzenburg, who plays with the Louisiana College team in Pinveville, is a right-handed junior. She is from Marksville, and played on the Marksville Lady Tigers softball team.

She went 4-0 for the week, earning three wins with complete games and picking up another in relief.

She had a total of 32 strikeouts over 23 innings of work and only allowed two earned runs as she improved to 7-0 on the season.

Bunkie beats Westlake 10-9 in baseball

The Bunkie Panthers beat the Westlake Rams in the last inning of a 10-9 win during baseball action at the Bee Line Monogram's Southwest Louisiana Shootout at Iowa High School on Saturday evening.

The Panthers forced Westlake to make mistakes to take the win.The Rams (3-5-1) battled for a 9-7 lead going into the bottom half, but the Panthers turned it around.

Marksville's René Schwartzenburg wins two more for LC Softball

Renè Schwartzenburg earned a pair of victories Friday as the Louisiana College softball team won two games in the ASC First Pitch tourney in Farmersburg, Texas.

The LC Lady Wildcats downed Howard Payne 7-0 and topped Mary Hardin-Baylor 5-1 in the annual early-season event that matches teams from the American Southwest Conference East against teams from the ASC West.

LC, which is ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division III, improved to 8-0 with the victories.

Schwartzenburg, a junior All-American from Marksville, was dominating in the opening game, allow just two hits and striking out 16.

Marksville boys basketball edged out of finals

In Tuesday's Class 3A state regional basketball contest at Marksville, the Marksville Tigers liked to run and shoot, and narrowly were edged out of the playoffs by the E. D. White Cardinals of Abbeville. The final score: E.D. White 43, Marksville 41.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents cited two Coushatta residents for deer hunting violations on Feb. 18 in Natchitoches Parish.

Husband and wife Donald and Tonette Mason were each cited for failure to comply with the deer tagging requirements. Tonette was additionally cited for taking over the daily limit of deer.
