Snow a no show

Avoyelles woke up this morning to find damp streets and yards, but no white stuff.

Despite an 80 percent chance of snow, the 20 percent won out, as temperatures did not dip as low as needed for frozen precipitation.

To the dismay of school children in the area, classes were not cancelled.

Had it snowed, this would have been the first time since 1899 that three snows had been recorded in the Alexandria area since in one winter. The previous record of two snows in 1973 was matched this winter.
