Avoyelles continues with low COVID numbers

Avoyelles Parish had a more optimistic COVID update Thursday than it had on Wednesday, with only five new cases found in 378 test results. There were no additional deaths since Wednesday.

Wednesday's report was not bad, with six cases in 268 tests, but had a sobering effect on otherwise good news with the report of two more COVID-related deaths.

The parish's official seven-day positive rate dropped from 2.2 percent to 0.9 percent. That rate looks at only the results of molecular lab tests and not the rapid result antigen tests. Approximately 89 percent of tests have been molecular tests.

As of Thursday, the parish's pandemic totals since March 2020 were 7,090 infections and 179 deaths. The statewide numbers were 758,230 cases and 14,525 deaths.
