Avoyelles COVID update for Tuesday: 7 cases, no deaths in 105 test results

With fewer people taking state-monitored COVID-19 tests, test results may not yield an accurate picture of the virus' presence in a community. Some daily reports may reflect no new cases out of a few hundred tests, some might show a dozen or so in less than 100 tests.

Be that as it may, the state uses the positive lab test results to measure a parish's progress in the pandemic.

For Avoyelles, Tuesday's report from the state was another disappointing day.

After a three-day weekend report on Monday that showed seven new cases in 180 tests -- and only four out of 131 lab tests -- the COVID yo-yo spun the wrong way Tuesday seven cases out of 105 tests, with five of those among only 53 of the all-important molecular lab tests.

While the one-day result with just over 100 tests is far from evidence of a "surge," it does show that the fight with COVID is a day-to-day battle and the war is not over yet.

As of Tuesday, Avoyelles' pandemic totals were 4,240 cases (3,692 lab tests, 548 rapid result tests) and 123 deaths (115/8). The state's totals were 466,440 cases and 10,500 deaths.
