Avoyelles had 173 new COVID cases over weekend

The "good" news for Avoyelles Parish is that there were no additional deaths from COVID over the weekend and the Monday report covers numbers for three days.

Other than that, it was the continuation of a two-week trend of high double-digit per day increases of cases, reportedly associated with the spread of the Delta variant in what is called the "fourth wave" of a pandemic that began in early 2020.

Since the noon Friday report, Avoyelles Parish had 173 new cases in 1,177 tests over the weekend. Broken down into molecular lab and quick result antigen tests, there were 87 positive results in 899 lab tests and 86 new cases diagnosed in 278 rapid tests. For those keeping track of positive rates, that is 14.7 percent overall, approximately 9.5 percent in molecular tests and a whopping 30.9 percent in antigen tests.

The parish's pandemic totals as of Monday were 5,591 cases and 135 deaths since March 2020. The state had 13,239 new cases and 65 deaths in the weekend report. The state's totals were 628,146 cases and 11,584 deaths during the pandemic.

Since last Monday, Avoyelles had 439 new cases and six additional deaths.
