Avoyelles has lower COVID-positive rate than eight neighboring parishes

For the week of June 3-9, Avoyelles Parish had a lower COVID-positive rate than any of its eight neighbors. In fact, six of those eight parishes saw their official weekly positive rate increase from the previous report for May 27-June 2.

The question now is whether Avoyelles will continue to lead the area in taming the virus or are the increased rates around it a preview of a future rise here?

The Thursday update from the state reviewed 207 tests with four new cases of COVID, bringing Avoyelles' pandemic total to 4,334 cases and 123 deaths. The state's 15-month totals as of Thursday are 477,127 cases and 10,677 deaths.
