Avoyelles sees slight uptick in COVID cases: six positives out of 283 tests

Avoyelles Parish had under 300 tests with six new cases in its Wednesday COVID update from the state. The report reflects a higher positive rate than the past few reports, including the Thursday-to-Monday Thanksgiving holiday update that had over twice as many tests with only one positive result.

Unless a trend develops, this report will be chalked up to a "luck of the draw" situation.

The parish's official positive rate dropped again. The state health department found the parish's positive rate for Nov. 18-24 to be 0.2 percent, compared to the 0.5 percent for Nov. 11-17.

As of Wednesday, the parish's 20-month pandemic totals were 7,393 cases with 182 fatalities. Statewide there had been 771,837 infections with 14,808 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020.
