Avoyelles Tuesday COVID update: 69 new cases, 10 reinfections, 2 deaths

Tuesday's COVID update for Avoyelles Parish brought sad news of two more pandemic deaths since the Monday report. There were 69 new individual infections and 10 reinfections, for an overall increase of 79 COVID cases. The new numbers pushed the parish's overall case count to 11,006 and the death toll to 189.

The state's per-day increase in new cases has dropped to 4,729 on Tuesday from Omicron Wave highs of over 14,000. However, the dreaded "trailing indicator" of additional COVID-related deaths in each report has been increasing. There were 71 additional deaths in the state in Tuesday's update.

LDH statistics for Avoyelles as of Tuesday showed 10,303 of the parish's estimated 40,000 residents have had COVID at one time since March 2020. Of those, 703 have been reiinfected -- or a reinfection rate of almost 7 percent.

Avoyelles' pandemic totals as of Tuesday were 10,303 individuals infected, 703 reinfections, 11,006 total cases, 189 deaths. The state totals as of Tuesday were 1,174,941 cases and 15,744 deaths. LDH reported 56,613 reinfections in the state, including 510 in the Tuesday update.
