Holiday weekend update shows 15 new COVID cases since Friday

Due to the long holiday weekend, Tuesday's COVID update from the state health department contained results of four days -- Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

The report for Avoyelles Parish showed 15 new cases out of 480 test results. There were 13 positive lab results out of 466 tests and two new cases in 34 rapid result tests. There were no additional deaths.

The pandemic totals for Avoyelles on Tuesday were 4,298 cases (3,736 lab, 562 rapid result) and 123 deaths (115 / 8). The state totals were 471,663 cases and 10,592 deaths.

The parish's results reflect a positive rate of almost 2.8 percent in the lab results the state uses to determine the parish's official weekly positive rate. Dividing the new cases by four gives an actual per-day count of 3.75 cases. To determine the new cases/day/100,000 pop. figure COVID watchers monitor, that number would be multiplied by 2.5 and be reported as 9.375.
