Thursday COVID update for Avoyelles: six new cases

The daily COVID count is squarely in the single digits and the parish has gone 10 days without a COVID-related death, but Avoyelles Parish has not yet shaken the persistent virus.
The daily update from the state health department for Thursday reported six new cases since the Wednesday update. Of those, five were first-time infections and one was a reinfection of an individual who had COVID earlier in the 23-month pandemic.
As of Thursday, the COVID totals for Avoyelles Parish were 11,554 cases affecting 10,758 individuals. There had been 796 cases of reinfection and 200 COVID-related deaths. The state totals showed 1,227,713 cases with 16,711 fatalities.
