Thursday update: 8 cases in 1,018 tests

Thursday's update from the state was perhaps one of the most optimistic in recent days for Avoyelles Parish, despite adding eight COVID cases to the 12-month pandemic total.

Those cases came out of 1,018 test results. From COVID-watcher's viewpoint, less than 10 cases out of 1,000 tests is more promising than 0 cases out less than 100 tests.

On a more somber note, the parish crossed the 4,000 mark for cases, which would indicate almost 10 percent of the parish's total population had COVID at some point during the last 12 months. The parish has had 121 of its citizens die from the disease and many more friends and family who have moved from here to pass away from COVID-related complications.

As of Thursday, Avoyelles' pandemic totals were 4005 cases (3,499 "confirmed" by molecular tests and 506 deemed "probable" due to rapid result tests) and 121 deaths (112/9). The state totals were 445,469 cases and 10,161 deaths.
