Weekend COVID update for Avoyelles: 8 cases in 321 tests

The three-day weekend COVID update for Avoyelles Parish was a little higher than most recent one-day reports, but not high enough to raise alarms.

There were 321 COVID tests reviewed in Avoyelles since Friday's report, with eight new cases identified. There were no additional COVID-related deaths. The overall positive rate for the report is almost 2.5 percent. Looking at the lab tests, there were four cases in 235 tests for a positive rate of 1.7 percent. The state health department uses only the lab test results to determine a parish's official weekly positive rate. That rate is currently 0.8 percent, but will be updated Wednesday.

The four tests in 86 rapid result tests reflects a 4.4 percent positive rate.

Avoyelles' pandemic totals as of Monday were 7,359 cases with 181 fatalities. The state totals on Monday were 765,296 cases and 14,699 deaths.
