No garbage pick up in Avoyelles on Thursday and Friday

There will be no household garbage collection in Avoyelles Parish this Thursday and Friday due to projected bad weather related to Hurricane Laura, Police Jury President Kirby Roy said today (Aug. 25). Waste Connection General Manager Jermaine Williams said the company will run its Wednesday route as it currently appears the storm will not be impacting Avoyelles at that time. Residents in the parish's biggest municipalities of Bunkie and Marksville have had one of their two scheduled garbage pickups this week.

Williams said the company "will not be able to catch these days up. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Roy said parish officials are monitoring Laura's progress in the Gulf and expected effect on Avoyelles to deterimine if the courthouse will need to be closed due to the hurricane. He said several public offices in Baton Rouge and farther south were planning to be closed Wednesday-Friday.

"At this time (Tuesday afternoon), the schools and the courthouse are open tomorrow until further notice," Roy said. "Immediate changes could occur."
