Six from Morganza arrested in Marksville ballpark shooting incident

Shots fired at Marksville's D.A. Jordan Recreation Complex on Martin Luther King Drive forced spectators to take cover. There were no injuries in the Wednesday night incident.

Marksville P.D. arrested five men and a juvenile, all from Morganza, in connection with the incident. The adults were booked into Avoyelles Detention Center #1 on $250,000 bond each. There was no bond imposed on the juvenile. All six were charged with terrorizing, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.

The case is still under investigation.

Gunshots were heard around 7:20 p.m. The shots are believed to have come from near the basketball courts behind the baseball fields, where Little League games were underway. Witnesses reported that some children cried while several people dropped to the ground in reaction to the shots.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Brouillette said an off-duty police officer who was at the ballpark called MPD dispatchers on his portable radio to report the incident. He requested additional officers be sent and provided a description of the vehicle -- a black Dodge Charger -- and the direction it was heading.

City police attempted to stop a vehicle matching that description. The driver did not stop, leading Marksville, Avoyelles Sheriff's Office and Tunica-Biloxi Tribal Police officers in a brief chase that ended at the intersection of Preston Street and Tunica Drive.

Marksville Little League President Torrick Friels said the Little League board would meet soon to discuss the incident and determine any additional steps.

Marksville Elementary School had a "crisis team" at the school Thursday morning to offer counseling to any students and staff in need. Many of the school's students, teachers and employees were at the game, a Facebook post noted.

Those arrested were Tyler Damyron Williams, 21, Damari Laterell Williams, 18, Romeo Ramell Matthews, 19, Treshawn M. Allen, 19, Ladarrius Matthews, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile.

Ladarrius Matthews was also charged with possession of a Schedule I drug, possession of a firearm with narcotics and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
