State Police to set up sobriety checkpoint in Rapides Parish Thursday

To combat impaired driving in this area, Louisiana State Police Troop E will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint from 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. Thursday (June 21) in Rapides Parish, weather and traffic conditions permitting.

"The mission will be to intercept and incarcerate impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves, their passengers, or members of the public," a Troop E spokesman said. "Drivers are less likely to drive impaired when they recognize the increased probability of law enforcement action."

Troop E encourages those who are enjoying a night out where drinking alcoholic beverages is involved to "make the mature decision and to designate a sober driver. Remember, 'You drink, You drive, You lose!'”

To report aggressive or suspected impaired driving, call *LSP (*577) from a cellular phone or call the nearest local law enforcement agency.
