Avoyelles averages 10 cases per day in weekend COVID report
Avoyelles Parish had its highest number of new cases in recent memory when the state health department released its Monday update. The report represents three days worth of test results, for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but the 31 new cases at one time was a flashback to several months ago when 40-plus new cases were all too common.
As of Monday, the parish's 16-month pandemic totals were at 4,417 infections and 125 deaths. Of those, 3,809 cases and 116 deaths had been confirmed as COVID-related by a molecular lab test. The other 608 cases and nine fatalities are considered "probable" for COVID-19 due to identification using a rapid result test. The state's pandemic totals on Monday are 489,951 cases and 10,789 deaths.
