Avoyelles Parish high school football scores for Week 9

Avoyelles wins; Bunkie, Marksville both fall to district leaders

Avoyelles High continued its winning ways Friday, shutting out the Menard Eagles, 30-0, to improve to 8-1 heading into the season finale at home against the Red River Bulldogs. The Mustangs are ranked third in Class 2A after nine weeks.

The Bunkie Panthers and Marksville Tigers both fell to their district leaders.

Many defeated Bunkie, 73-28. Many is No. 1 in Class 2A. The Jena Giants beat the Marksville Tigers, 38-8.

Bunkie is currently #29 in Class 2A and Marksville is #31 in Class 3A. The top 32 teams at the end of the regular season in each class advance to the playoffs. This means the season finale could determine whether Bunkie and Marksville go on or go home. For Avoyelles, the question is whether they will be placed in the same bracket with the No. 1 ranked Many and have to face the defending state champions prior to the state title game or be in the other bracket where there will be no rematch of the Mustangs 34-30 last-minute loss to their district rival until the championship contest.
