Alexandria Man Killed in Rapides Parish Crash

Rapides Parish – On August 6, 2021, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Plantation Road at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 496 (Bayou Rapides Road). This crash claimed the life of 82-year-old Alton J. Brooks, of Alexandria.

The initial investigation revealed a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Brooks, was traveling southbound on Plantation Road. As Brooks approached Louisiana Highway 496, he failed to clear the intersection before proceeding. As a result, Brooks entered the intersection and was struck by a westbound 2005 Ford F250 pickup truck.

Brooks, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford F250, who was restrained, sustained no injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.
In 2021, Troop E has investigated 31 fatal crashes resulting in 32 deaths.
