All Bunkie schools back on lockdown

UPDATE: Louisiana State Police found no explosive device at the Weir St. home and the all clear has been given. The investigation is continuing.

All schools are back on lockdown in Bunkie Thursday afternoon after a suspected bomb was found inside a home were a person of interest attempted suicide by shooting himself. A bomb squad from Shreveport is currently enroute to the Weir Street location to assess the situation. It is not known what type of explosive device was found by police.

A man threatening suicide was seen on his property with one or more weapons in Bunkie earlier Thursday morning putting all three schools in Bunkie on lockdown. The Weir Street home is just two blocks from St. Anthony of Padua School in Bunkie. The man allegedly shot himself was taken to Bunkie General Hospital and later transferred to an Alexandria hospital. After the shooting, police was searching the home and found large number of weapons in the homes. While going through the guns they found the device. They called the bomb squad and put the schools back on lockdown.

Authorities has assured the public the students at each school safe.
