Carnival time in Avoyelles next weekend

Chicken run, fais do-do, parades set for Saturday and Sunday

Mardi Gras celebrations will be in full swing in Avoyelles Parish next weekend with family-friendly community events:

Children’s chicken run, parade, community gumbo, Echo- The St. Francis de Sales Knights of Columbus Council #9294 will hold its annual children’s Mardi Gras parade and chicken run on Saturday, Feb. 23, weather permitting. If it is rained out the activities will be scheduled for March 2. The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and should end around 4 p.m.

A $1 donation/entry fee will be collected from all parade participants. After the parade returns to the church area, gumbo will be sold beginning at 4 p.m.

Krewe of Cronus parade, family fais do-do, Bunkie- The city of Bunkie will host the Bunkie Mardi Gras Parade and Family Fais Do-Do on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will end at the Corn Festival grounds across from Bunkie Elementary School. The fais do-do will immediately follow the parade and will be held outdoors, weather permitting. There is no entry fee for the parade or fais do-do. J.C. Melancon band will perform.

During the celebration, the debutantes for 2020 will be announced. These girls will represent the Bunkie Rotary Club’s Krewe of Cronus during its Mardi Gras ball next season. Entry into the parade is free of charge. Anyone can participate. No horses or ATVs admitted. Golf carts, bikes, cars, trucks and floats are all accepted.

Krewe of Cyllenius parade, Marksville- The Rotary Club of Avoyelles 2019 Krewe of Cyllenius Mardi Gras Parade will once again roll through the streets of Marksville.

There is no fee to enter the parade.

Lineup will begin at 1 p.m. behind the former Red River Grill on Washington Street on the courthouse square. The parade will begin at 2 p.m.

“There’s still plenty of time to get your float, dance line or organization registered,” Parade Chairperson Chrystal Adams said. “This is a family-oriented event and clubs, candidates, organizations and schools are encouraged to participate in our Mardi Gras parade,” she added.
