Hurricane season begins with Tropical Storm Ana near Bermuda

The 2021 Hurricane Season has begun.

Tropical Storm Ana, a minor packing 45 mph winds, developed and was named Saturday northeast of Bermuda. The storm is expected to continue moving northeast Sunday and weaken to a low pressure system by Monday afternoon.

Another contender to be the first storm of the season developed near the Texas Gulf Coast earlier in the week but made landfall before it could reach named-storm status.

The official start of hurricane season is June 1. Last year's record-breaking season began with Tropical Storm Arthur on May 16, 2020 southeast of Florida and meandered a bit until it broke apart near Bermuda four days later.

Ana is expected to cause very little problems. Bermuda will experience some "breezy conditions and showers" with heavier rains and higher winds staying over water northeast of the island.
