A Marksville woman injured in a one-car accident on La. Hwy 107 on Oct. 10 died of her injuries on Monday (Oct. 18), State Police Troop E reported.

Charlotte Hemmingway, 52, was northbound on La. Hwy 107 near Ruby-
Wise Road when her 2002 Mazda pickup truck ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Hemmingway was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, a Troop E spokesman said.

Troop E was notified Monday that Hemmingway had died from the injuries sustained in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation, the trooper said.

"Buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself during a vehicle crash," the Troop E spokesman said. "Failure to take a few seconds to buckle up can have devastating consequences."

State law requires that every person in a vehicle be properly restrained while the car is in motion.

Troop E has investigated 44 fatal traffic accidents resulting in 46 deaths so far this year.
