Traffic Stop by K-9 Unit Leads to an Arrest

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) is proud to announce that our newly established K-9 Unit now has both a certified Narcotic Detection K-9 and a K-9 Tracker. In mid-August 2022, (APSO) K-9 Deputy “Max” and his handler became certified in Narcotics Detection. In April 2022, K-9 Deputy “Queen” and her handler became certified in tracking.

On September 5, 2022, at approximately 7:35 pm, while on patrol, an APSO K-9 Unit Patrol Deputy made a traffic stop on Preston Street in Marksville, LA. Shortly thereafter, APSO K-9 Deputy “MAX” was called to duty. MAX sniffed around the vehicle and aggressively alerted. Further investigation and search of the vehicle resulted in the arrest of 30-year-old Dekareon Wells of Cottonport, LA for possession of forty-two (42) bags of Marijuana and three (3) Marijuana cigars/blunts.

Dekareon Wells was arrested for the offense of Possession of Schedule I with Intent to Distribute. He was booked into APSO DC-1 in Marksville. His bond was set at $25,000.00. Wells bonded out and was released that same day.
