As has happened in several daily COVID updates this summer, Avoyelles Parish has fewer COVID cases today than it did yesterday.
Hannah Desselle, facing trial next week for the murder of Kasey Bigum, pled guilty to manslaughter Thursday.
She waived her right to appeal and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Avoyelles Parish officials received a welcome surprise at a recent event when Tunica Biloxi Chairman Marshall Pierite (seated left) presented a check for $266,235 to Police Jury President Kirby Roy (seated right). The amount is the quarterly distribution of 6 percent of the Paragon Casino's gaming revenues to local public entities as provided for in the tribe's gaming compact with the state. Avoyelles local public entities will be sharing $266,235 of what has been a rare quarterly distribution of revenue under the Paragon Casino Resort's gaming compact with the state.
Avoyelles Parish had 226 test results in its Thursday COVID update from the state health department and had a net gain of two cases. There were no additional COVID-related deaths.
