The "Christmas Star" beams down over Hessmer, from this viewer's perspective, when Jupiter and Saturn came within 0.1 degree of each other shortly after sunset Monday (Dec. 21). The last time Jupiter and Saturn came this close was in 1623, but it occurred during daylight hours and could not be seen. The last time this sight could have been witnessed from the ground was in 1226. If you missed it, you will have to wait until 2417 for another chance -- weather permitting. {Photo by Karen M. Daye}.
