Abner Voorhies, 92, Pineville

Funeral services for Abner Voorhies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Reverend Jeff White officiating. Burial will be at Wise Chapel Cemetery.

The family requests visitation be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Voorhies, 92, of Pineville passed from this life, July 18, 2022 at Oak Haven Nursing Home.

He was a member of Palmer Chapel Presbyterian Church and the Last Chance Fishing Club. During his working career he was a pressman for the Alexandria Daily Town Talk, now Gannett News.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Bertha Cannon Voorhies; sisters, Delcie Voorhies, Nandine Voorhies Duschane, Eliane V. Hogan and Bertha “Aunt Gal” Voorhies; brothers, O. B. Ryland, Talmadge Voorhies, Erby Voorhies, Jeff “Booster” Voorhies, Ronnie Voorhies, and Bonnie Voorhies

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Callie Craig Voorhies; sons, Jimmie Roy Voorhies and his wife, Theresa, Abner Bryan Voorhies and his wife, Melissa; daughter, Marsha Laprarie and husband, Dale; half-sisters, Shirley V. Gunter and Jeri V. Armony; nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Josh Colson, Kamron Miller, Brody Bailey, Riley Gaspard, Jackson Dupuy and Kyle Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
