Alice Gagnard, 85 of Marksville

Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Alice “Irmgard” Guthörl Gagnard will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dan O’Connor officiating. Interment will be held at St. Joseph Mausoleum # 2. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Mrs. Gagnard, age 85, of Marksville, LA., passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Valley View Nursing Home. She is preceded in death by her husband, Irving Gagnard; infant daughter, Charlene Anne Gagnard; parents, Johann and Susanne Guthörl; and six siblings of Germany.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Tony Gagnard (Kacy) of Las Vegas, NV., Irving “Bozo” Gagnard, Jr. of Marksville; one daughter, Cindy Gagnard of Auburn, GA.; and one grandson, Eric Joseph Gagnard of Las Vegas, NV.

Alice was born on May 27, 1937 in Butzbach, Germany. She met her husband Irving Gagnard in 1955 in Germany while he was stationed in the US Army, and they were married on March 17, 1956 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Alice and Irving began a family having three children, Tony, Irving “Bozo” Gagnard, Jr., and Cindy in the span of 13 years living between the United States and Germany. In 1969 Alice was able to embrace a new life with new family and cultures where she and her husband Irving could raise their family, and call Marksville, LA home.

Throughout Alice’s life, she was a devoted Christian and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marksville, and the diocese of Alexandria, where she and her husband contributed their time as bus transportation for hundreds of children in the catholic school system in Avoyelles.

Alice enjoyed life, and in her spare time was usually found gardening as she had a tremendous love her for plants. She was also known for her amazing cooking skills in the kitchen, where her love for pastries began at a young age in Germany. She also had a very good hand in cards and loved a good game where she joined many of her lady friends on afternoons. But most of all she was known for her beautiful smile, her captivating personality, and a German wit, always looking to make a new best friend.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home and will reopen on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday April 10, 2023.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Donny Gagnard, Grady Gagnard, Eric Gagnard, Wesley Lachney, Sonny Lachney, and Mike Ducote.
