FIFTH WARD - A Mass of Christian Burial for Cleveland Paul Dauzat will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Kurian Zachariah officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Fifth Ward, under the direction of Kramer of Fifth Ward.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, and resume from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the funeral home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, in the chapel.
Cleveland Paul Dauzat, 93, of Fifth Ward, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018, in his residence.
Cleveland was born in Marksville on June 25, 1924 and started working at Tender Crust Bakery early in life. He later started working at Continental Trailways Busline and eventually opened and operated Cleve’s Service Station in 1963. Cleveland enjoyed raising cattle and pigs and was known for growing for Irish potatoes, watermelons, soy beans, and sugarcane. Cleveland was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved the outdoors and made sure his children enjoyed being outside. Cleveland was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Cleveland was very involved in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Leesville. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cleveland is preceded in death by his parents, John and Leontine Dauzat; two brothers, Lyson Dauzat, Sr. and Huey Dauzat; one sister, Shirley Guillot; and infant baby brother, Lyson Dauzat.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Jeanne Dauzat; children, Evans (Laura) Dauzat, Cynthia (Gary) McKay, Susan (Dexter) Champagne, Denise (Michael) Firmin, and Dana (Trina) Dauzat; two siblings, Betty Guillot and Gerade Dauzat; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Cleveland is also survived by six grand-puppies.
Pallbearers honored to serve include James Chatelain, Carlos Guillot, Matthew Dauzat, Carl Simon, Troy Dauzat, Donald DeWayne Dauzat. Honorary pallbearers will be Perry Guillot, John Duffy, and Christopher Duffy.
