Jacqueline (Jackie) Ewing Hines, Bunkie

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jacqueline (Jackie) Ewing Hines was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at St. Anthony Padua Church with the Rev. Stephen Scott Chemino officiating. Burial followed at Pythian Cemetery, Bunkie, LA. Friends visited on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie. Arrangements were under the direction of Hixon-Ducote Funeral Home, Bunkie, LA.
Jackie passed away surrounded by her family, Wednesday August 10, 2022. Mrs. Jackie (86) was born October 10, 1935 in Marksville, LA. She was preceded in death by Dr. and Senator Donald Hines, her father and mother Richard and Virgie deNux Ewing and resided in Bunkie for almost 70 years.
Jackie raised 6 wonderful children, 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is survived by Donna Louise Newton (Jordan) of Bunkie, Richard Arvie Hines (Andrea) of Lafayette, Christopher Arthur Hines (Deidre) of Bunkie, Henry Clifton Hines of Bunkie, Scott Alan Hines (Laura) of Lafayette, and Virginia Marie Long (Chase) of Bunkie, and her tribe of grandchildren, great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
She was President of St. Anthony Altar Society, President of Louisiana Legislative Spouses Auxiliary, Dream Girl at SLI (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette), Founding member of PhiMu Sorority at SLI, and a Marksville High School Majorette.
Jackie was a long-time educator and small business owner. She taught elementary school, and ran a successful antique shop in the Bunkie area. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was extremely proud of her accomplishments as well as those of her children and grandchildren, teaching Special Ed students, her knowledge of antique furniture, her faith, and helping others.
She will also be greatly missed by those left of her College Gang, her cousins and all who were fortunate enough to call her their friend.
She had a caring heart, a quick wit and loved to spend time telling all who would listen to her stories with near perfect recall of her travels, her family history and the great times she spent her with family and friends.
Pallbearers included her grandsons: Richard Hines, Jr. Donald Newton, Jade Lambert, Derrick Hines, Adam Hines, James Newton, Nick Hines, Ethan Hines, Christian Hines, Jack Elliott Hines and Devin Long.
