Jude Bordelon, 88, Bordelonville native

Jude Bordelon, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.

After a boyhood in Bordelonville, a move to New Orleans and then Chalmette led to marriage, family, and a long career as an electrician at Lone Star and LaFarge. An avid gardener, he brought the country to the suburbs with rows of tomatoes, okra, and peppers. Katrina led to a return to his Bordelonville roots and a warm welcome from his extended family. Proudly Cajun, a first question to new acquaintances was often “do you like boudin and cracklins?” A born storyteller, he could turn a sandwich break at work into a comedy sketch. His infectious good nature meant a steadily widening circle of friends and acquaintances. And he would do anything for a laugh – including posing for a picture with a feather boa in the aisle of a big box store.

Marriage and family were central to his life. Betty, wife of 66 years and happy recipient of his hugs and kisses, was a constant and loving companion. An active father, always ready for a game of pitch and catch or camping trip, he was a proud baseball coach and Scout leader. Later in life, he always seemed to have a grand or great grand-child in his arms or on his lap in a rocking chair. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bordelon and Pliney Bordelon.

He leaves behind his wife, Betty Lemoine Bordelon of Bordelonville; daughters, Bonnie Chambon (Michael) of Hammond, and Lisa Usner (Val) of Pineville; son, David Bordelon (Diane) of Fair Haven, New Jersey. His six grandchildren Lindsay, Brendan, Kyle, Evan, Julia, and Zachary, and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Jonathan and Eleanor always left him with a smile.

He was buried on February 19, 2022 in St. Peter's Church cemetery in Bordelonville.
