BELLEDEAU - A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Paul Joseph Ducote on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Belledeau with Father Kurian Zachariah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home in Bunkie.
The family request that visitation be observed at Melancon Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. and resume visitation on Friday from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Paul Joseph Ducote, age 65, of Hessmer died in his home on April 18, 2018. Paul lived in Hessmer with his sister, Betty Ducote and her husband Clyston Ducote (deceased) and their three children, Jerry Ducote (deceased), Christine Ducote Walls (John) and Melissa Ducote Anderson (Clark) since Paul was 23 years old. Betty began taking care of her younger brother 42 years ago when their dad went into a nursing home. Paul loved the outdoors, he loved fishing, telling jokes and stories and making everyone laugh. He loved watching LSU and the Saints. He cherished spending time with his family- his nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters. Paul loved to sing, especially Elvis songs and loved to play the guitar. He and Jerry would play for hours on the guitar when they were younger. Paul never met a stranger and everyone adored him. When Paul was younger, he really enjoyed riding his bike and loved playing basketball outside. He also enjoyed mowing the grass and picking up sticks to keep the yard clean. Paul absolutely adored children and babies. His favorite saying was "aw sha baby" when he saw a little baby. Paul also loved to eat. He was always very thin but could out eat anyone around and absolutely loved coffee. He was known for his "happy go lucky spirit" and was telling jokes until the end. Paul also loved to color especially in his final days when he couldn't get around any longer. Paul may have been 65 but he was still young at heart.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Laura C. Ducote; his father, Widnor J. Ducote Sr.; his brothers, Elbon Ducote, Reese Ducote, Elton Ducote, Wallace Ducote, Widnor Ducote Jr. and Jerry Ducote; his sisters, Livonia Ducote, Doris Fabre, Rita Whatley and Rose Lee Jeansonne.
He is survived by his two sisters, Betty D. Ducote of Hessmer and Rosemary (Jerry) Firmin of Denham Springs; his brother, Dennis Ducote of Kenner. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers honored to serve are Clark Anderson, John Walls, Ryan Ducote, John Fabre , Tony Clark and Blake Guillot.
