Sister Edna Mae Jones

Sister Edna Mae Jones, the daughter of the late Wedger Jones and Edna Francis Jones, entered eternal life on August 5, 2022. She was 89 years old. Sister Edna Mae was born in Houston on February 22, 1933. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family on September 8, 1951, made First Vows on August 15, 1954, and Perpetual Vows on August 15, 1959. Sister had celebrated 70 years as a Sister of the Holy Family. Sister Edna earned a BA in Elementary Education from Xavier University in New Orleans and MS from Mount St. Mary University in Los Angeles. She ministered to the people of God in Texas: Holy Spirit, Marshall; St. Gerard, San Antonio; St. Nicholas, Our Mother of Mercy, and St. Philip Neri, Houston. In Louisiana: All Saints, House of the Holy Family, and Lafon Nursing Facility, New Orleans; St. Peter Claver, Grand Coteau; Marksville Catholic, Marksville; Holy Family, Lafayette; Holy Ghost, Opelousas; and St. Francis Xavier, Baton Rouge. In California: St. Albert the Great, in Compton. She also served her community as local leader and local treasurer. Sister Edna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two who were also Sisters of the Holy Family and nine brothers. She is survived by her youngest sister, Catherine Moss. Sister will be truly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, as well as her religious sisters. Everyone will remember Sister Edna Mae as quiet and unassuming but focused and diligent about her duties. Funeral arrangements are Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Motherhouse Chapel of the Sisters of the Holy Family 6901 Chef Menteur Hwy. Visitation begins at 8:00 a.m. Wake services begin at 9:15 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment at St. Louis Cemetery #2.
